OUR JOURNEY

FROM THE RECORD SHOP TO THE DANCEFLOOR — AND BACK AGAIN.

OUR JOURNEY SO FAR...

FROM THE RECORD SHOP TO THE DANCE FLOOR AND BACK AGAIN!

NINETRIBE might be relatively new, but the story behind it goes back more than three decades.

It starts around 1990, when Spencer Alexander first stepped behind the decks doing mobile discos with a friend. It was a start, but clubs and house music were where he really wanted to be.

By 1992, Spencer had landed his first regular club gig in Maidstone — and things quickly moved from there.

LIVING AND BREATHING HOUSE MUSIC

By the mid-90s, music wasn't just something Spencer played at weekends. It had become pretty much his entire life.

Working for a vinyl distributor during the week, behind the counter at the legendary Bluebird Records in Bromley on Saturdays, and DJing as many as six nights a week, he was surrounded by records, DJs and club culture.

Those years saw Spencer play across clubs in London and the South East, as well as spending time as one of the resident DJs at the Seduction Weekenders.

It was an era when DJs discovered music in record shops rather than through algorithms. New releases were heard on dancefloors, flyers were handed out in the street and weekends revolved around where you were going and who was playing.

Those experiences would eventually become part of the DNA of NINETRIBE.

LIFE CHANGES. THE MUSIC DOESN'T.

Around 2005, Spencer stepped away from DJing.

Family life took priority and what was supposed to be a break from the scene became a long one.

But the love of house music never disappeared.

Nearly two decades later, the pull of the decks, the records and — most importantly — the dancefloor proved too strong.

Spencer returned to DJing and, together with one of his oldest friends, created NINETRIBE.

NINETRIBE IS BORN

What started as a shared passion for the music and culture we'd grown up with has developed into something much bigger.

Over the last couple of years, NINETRIBE has put on a series of events celebrating both sides of our musical world.

Our 90s house events take us back to the records and atmosphere that started the journey.

But we're not interested in living entirely in the past.

Through SOMETHING DEVIOUS, we bring that same attitude to modern house music — new music, new nights and new memories.

Different eras. Same feeling.

BEYOND THE DANCEFLOOR

The journey is continuing away from the clubs too.

For several months we hosted the NINETRIBE Radio Show on In2Groove Radio, giving us another way to share the music we love.

Our Mixcloud is home to NINETRIBE mixes and sessions, while we're also finding our way back into the studio and beginning to produce music again.

And we're only getting started.

More events. More music. More collaborations. More projects.

After more than three decades, the journey has come full circle — from two friends doing mobile discos, through record shops, club booths and 90s dancefloors, to NINETRIBE today.

The technology changed.
The clubs changed.
We got a little older.

The love of house music never did.

THIS IS NINETRIBE.

HOUSE MUSIC. THEN. NOW. ALWAYS.

Watch this space.
